Job Summary:
Load and unload delivery vehicle with library materials. Deliver library materials and equipment between the RAILS office and member libraries or other designated locations based on a prescribed daily route. Ensure safe and proper lifting and driving practices.
Core Job Functions:
Pickup and deliver library material between member libraries
Sort and organize materials throughout the day and upon returning to RAILS office(s)
Assist in planning/revising route schedules if needed
Uphold a cooperative and friendly customer service attitude in working with the staff of member libraries
Maintain appropriate record keeping and statistics of activities
Maintain physical condition of delivery vehicles (fuel, fluids, and tires) on an ongoing basis and recommend repairs of mechanical defects to supervisor
Drive delivery vehicle in a safe and responsible manner; follows all traffic laws and use seat belts
Train new delivery department personnel as needed
Maintain security of member libraries access/alarm codes and building keys
Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Education –
High school diploma / GED required
Knowledge/Experience –
1 year previous delivery experience preferred
Library experience preferred but not required
Working knowledge of basic computers, MS Office Suite software preferred; experience using the internet
Skills/Abilities:
Ability to effectively speak and read English
Ability to adapt to a predetermined workflow pattern and its required priorities to carry out tasks with a high degree of accuracy and reliability
Ability to work autonomously while ensuring ongoing communication with the supervisor
Ability to work effectively with RAILS staff as well as the staffs of the member libraries
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements —
Active working environment
Ability to communicate in person and via phone , video conferencing, and electronic mail
Required to drive delivery vehicle safely and obey all traffic laws
Ability to handle possible hazardous driving conditions and make related decisions
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs on a regular basis
Ability to bend, stoop, reach a maximum of 65” and climb stairs
