Position Description: 

Education, Training and Experience: High school education, oftern in progress. Pages must be able to accurately file materials within the Dewey Decimal System and must be able to courteously refer clients to the appropriate service desk. An awareness of the purposes and functions of the public library and the ability to learn routine library procedures is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Works in both the Youth and Adult Services department shelving, organizing materials and performing simple tasks:

Shelves library materials in proper order.

Performs shelf reading to assure materials are in proper order.

Answers directional questions.

Refers reference and other informational questions to professional librarians.

Assists in departmental activities as needed.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Performs duties in a climate-controlled environment. Must be able to push and pull library book trucks weighning 100-300lbs. and carry up to 15 lbs. of books across the library. Pages stand for a long period of time in one area. Bending and streching to reach high and low shelves is required.

Responsibilities: The Library Accountant / Finance Specialist coordinates the financial and business operations of the Library.

Assists Library Director with preparation and administration of the annual budget and appropriation, annual levy, and line-item working budget. Prepares all documentation in preparation for audits. Attends regular meetings of the Board of Library Trustees, and well as special and committee meetings. Assures all tasks are completed in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Performs other related duties as assigned or required.

Compensation: Salary from $24.25 per hour, depending upon qualifications.

Job Description: Come join our busy library! The River Forest Public Library is searching for an enthusiastic Materials Services Assistant I to join our team. The Materials Services Assistant I will perform a variety of tasks related to the shelving of library materials. This is an ideal job for a currently enrolled student.

The Materials Services Assistant I will work primarily to perform the following tasks:

  • Sorting materials for shelving
  • Shelving all formats library materials in the library, shifting materials as necessary
  • Checking for accuracy and straightening materials on shelves.
  • Emptying book drop.
  • May check-out/check-in materials as assigned
  • May perform closing duties
  • Will perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • In progress or completed High School education.
  • Previous experience or volunteer experience in a library environment preferred.
  • Ability to arrange alphabetically and numerically.
  • Ability to reach, bend, lift and retrieve materials
  • Must be able to pull or push a cart loaded with library materials
  • Ability to use telephone and knowledge of computer applications
  • Must show great attention to detail.
