Duties:

Assist patrons with using our public Internet computers and laptops. Handle basic troubleshooting of our computers, laptops and software.  Assist users in finding magazines.  Check-in, process and shelve newspapers.  Perform other duties associated with computers and periodicals.

Main Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; one year of public contact experience; demonstrated computer skills in navigating the Internet, e-mail and e-mail tools, Microsoft Word, some knowledge of Office Suite products.

General information

 

Part-time position averages 14-16 hours per week, including some weekends.  $12.48 per hour.  You will workdaytime, evening and weekendhours, so you’ll need flexible availability.  Accuracy and attention to detail required.  This position requires direct contact with the public most of the time.

Position Description: 

The Oak Park Public Library is seeking a friendly, organized, flexible individual with excellent judgment who will help customers of all ages find exactly what they need whether its books, movies, programming info or computer assistance.  The branch environment requires the ability to do a range of library tasks.

Responsibilities include supervision of Library Assistants and Shelvers, general circulation duties, tracking statistics and submitting reports, searching the library catalog, internet, SWAN and other key databases as needed for Reference and Reader’s Advisory.  There will also be opportunities for programming and collection maintenance. 

 

Requirements include an Associate’s degree or two years of college. A minimum of 3 years experience working in a library or other customer service position is also required.  Experience supervising, training and developing staff is strongly preferred. 

This position is based at the Dole Branch, but supervisors may be assigned to any of the Library’s three locations. We are hoping to fill the following weekly schedule: Tuesdays 5-9pm, Wednesdays 9-3pm, Thursdays 3-9 pm and Fridays 9-1 pm. The supervisor will be in the Sunday shift rotation.

This position is for 20 hours per week and starts at $17.65 per hour.

Fountaindale Public Library District, which proudly serves the diverse community of Bolingbrook, is seeking a public service-oriented individual to provide computer assistance and training to patrons in the Adult and Teen Services department.

Duties: Assists patrons in the use of public access terminals, online services, Internet and other equipment and software available for public use.  Maintains familiarity with all library computer software and databases.  Troubleshoots computer hardware and software problems.  Notifies appropriate staff of complex computer issues.  Assists with department computer classes as needed.  Assists patrons in the use of hand held devices as needed.  Under direction of supervisor, create instructional handouts for classes and services as needed.  Monitors the use of the library computer area.  Notifies security staff when problems arise.  Cleans and maintains computer hardware.  Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Education: Requires expertise typically acquired through completion of a high school diploma with computer related course work.

Experience: No previous experience required. Computer hardware and software support and Internet application experience in a comparable business, organization, or library preferred. 

Skills:Office & Library Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and database software applications.  Ability to learn and operate computer applications and programs.  Familiar with Internet protocols and search techniques.  Communication Communicates effectively in English, both orally and in writing.

Performs duties to shelve materials, maintain the organization of the collection and maintain orderliness of public areas by returning materials to their proper location, and monitoring tables, countertops and placement of small furniture. Collaborates with other staff to resolve circulation related issues as needed and assists in creating a positive environment.

Position Description: 

The Orland Park Public Library is currently accepting applications for a part-time position in the Information Technology Department. Responsibilities include installing and testing necessary software and hardware, providing users with network technical support, set up and maintenance of basic network operations  including assembly of network hardware, registering patrons for and assisting them in the use of public computers, and training staff and patrons in the use of technology and software.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Considerable ability to work and communicate effectively with the public and staff in a friendly manner.  
  • Ability to build desktop PCs from components
  • Proven knowledge of Windows TCP/IP networks
  • Proven knowledge of operating systems, network standards, protocols and troubleshooting techniques
  • Experience in current technology including Microsoft Windows, Internet, Email (Outlook and webmail), MS Office suite, and basic troubleshooting
  • Physical ability and manual dexterity to install, maintain and operate computer equipment, peripherals and software, enter data on keyboard accurately, move throughout the building, read computer screens, bend, stoop, reach, transport and lift up to 60 pounds

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven knowledge of Windows OS
  • Proven knowledge of Windows TCP/IP networking
  • Minimum two years of computer science coursework completed
  • Linux command line experience preferred
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends
