Duties:
Assist patrons with using our public Internet computers and laptops. Handle basic troubleshooting of our computers, laptops and software.  Assist users in finding magazines.  Check-in, process and shelve newspapers.  Perform other duties associated with computers and periodicals.

Main Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; one year of public contact experience; demonstrated computer skills in navigating the Internet, e-mail and e-mail tools, Microsoft Word, some knowledge of Office Suite products.

General information:

This part-time position averages 14-16 hours per week, including some weekends.  $12.60 per hour.  You will workdaytime, evening and weekendhours, so you’ll need flexible availability.  Accuracy and attention to detail required.  This position requires direct contact with the public most of the time. This position is responsible for researching, purchasing, and processing new library resources, including serial subscriptions, online databases, and monographic continuations.

Researches the availability and cost of print and electronic monographic serials and standing orders.

Works with the library's ILS, OCLC, and other acquisition tools to conduct searches, and create or edit MARC records in Voyager's Cataloging Module.

Processes receipt of materials and shipments from vendors. Verifies order accuracy, corresponds with vendors to rectify mistakes in shipment. Negotiates returns or replacements and processes claims of missing or damaged items.

Updates Voyager Acquisitions Module and begins invoice process. Generates purchase orders and communicates with Business Office to process payments.

Records/Checks-in all periodicals, newspapers and continuations in the Voyager Acquisitions module. After cataloging, places items on shelves, distributes or routes as appropriate.

Manages portions of the serials database. Enters relevant bibliographic data, access information and contacts into Serials Solutions for electronic and print journal subscriptions to assure that electronic holdings are accessible 24/7 on and off campus.

Maintains an "at a glance" Excel spreadsheet listing all annual electronic subscription costs, dates of access, vendors and fund codes.

Works with Library Technology Coordinator, Collections Coordinator, and I.T. to enable access to e-resources.

Coordinates the disposal of withdrawn print and microform serials.

Processes and acknowledges all donations.

Assists with the acquisition of popular print bestsellers and audiobooks. Assists with popular music, DVD, and graphic novel selection and receipt via Barnes and Noble.

Assists the Coordinator with print deselecting/book withdrawal, lost record database maintenance, print disposal and recycling.

Assists the Coordinator with archival collection maintenance.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Position Description: 

The full-time position of Readers’ Advisor is available for a passionate reader of adult fiction who possesses strong technology skills. Under the supervision of the Readers’ Advisory Librarian, the Readers’ Advisor plans and leads adult book discussion groups and other fiction-related programs, as well as staffing a busy public service desk assisting adult and teen patrons with books, movies, and music. The Readers’ Advisor will work with other members of the Readers’ Advisory team to select fiction titles for the print collection, create patron-oriented advisory materials, and facilitate reading programs. The Readers' Advisor also acts as the lead blogger for the adult fiction section of the Library web page, and provides training and troubleshooting for the Library's eBook collection. Position Description: 

The Pritzker Military Museum & Library is seeking a Librarian who will provide general support to all members of the Library staff, patrons, and guests. Candidates with demonstrated detail diligence, efficiency effectiveness, and service oriented attitude are welcome to apply.  

Essential Qualifications:

  • MLIS degree required
  • 3 - 5 years experience working in a library environment
  • Intermediate to expert computer software skills – Microsoft Office products and Internet research ability
  • Experience using OCLC and local library automation systems a plus
  • Personable, articulate, self-starter, dependable, organized, and attentive to detail
  • Knowledge of or experience with the military, military science, or military history is preferred
  • Flexible schedule with ability to work some nights and weekends required

 

Position Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Process and track interlibrary loans
  • Process donations and donation correspondence for the Chief Librarian and Director of Collections Management
  • Carry out the dispersal of duplicate items in the collection as needed
  • Maintain circulation records
  • Answer reference questions in support of the senior Library staff
  • Assist in catalog maintenance
  • Assist in visitor services in the Library
  • Assist the Chief Librarian with collection of data for monthly reports as needed
  • Assist in the preparation of mass mailings
  • Provide logistical support for Library events and programs as needed
  • Assist the Associate Librarian, Chief Librarian, and other Library staff as requested
  • Cross-train with Library Assistants as needed
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Associate Librarian and Chief Librarian
