Position Description: 
  • This position involves direct public service and is primarily responsible for the enforcement of policies and maintaining library decorum with our patrons.
  • Involves policing of library property and facility.
  • Attends the Circulation Desk during regularly assigned hours and when special situations require.
  • A part-time position under the direct supervision and responsible to the Assistant Library Director.

Job Responsibilities:   

  • Patrols the entire library property, inside and out, at designated intervals
  • Employee must be able to analyze situations, assess the degree of trouble and respond appropriately following policies and procedures
  • Looks for, and reports, acts of vandalism in the facility, restrooms, to library materials, outer facility, fixtures and grounds
  • Maintains activity log

  • Creating annotated bibliographies for research projects.
  • Cataloguing monographs and abstracting APA periodicals in our ILS.
  • Conducting research for the monthly By the Numbers column in Planning magazine.
  • Managing metadata for APA publications during implementation of APA’s Universal Taxonomy.
  • Writing posts and obtaining leads for the Kids’ Planning Toolbox blog.
  • Other projects as assigned.   

 Qualifications:

We are looking for a tech-savvy, creative, hardworking individual eager to delve into the world of special libraries. Enrollment in or recent degree from an MLS degree program required. Academic background in social sciences, planning, urban studies or a related field preferred. Knowledge of Library of Congress Classification, AACR2/RDA cataloguing standards, and ability to learn APA’s own classification system required.  Excellent organizational, communication, and writing skills and the ability to work independently are required.

From $48,175, depending on experience.
Position Description: 

The St. Charles Public Library District is seeking experienced individuals with excellent reference and customer service skills, strong technical and organizational skills and aptitude, and some supervisory experience for this full-time position.

Duties: Will select and maintain databases and other subscription services, including vendor relations and licenses, access, and promoting services to patrons. Will create, coordinate, and update the Reference and Information Services Department's web content, and contribute to social media content. Will also create and present programs for community groups about contemporary and trending library services.

Responsibilities: Will include Reference and Readers Services desk public duties, some evening hours, and a weekend rotation every four weeks. Will also provide some staff training and collection development.

Qualifications: Applicants must have an MLS or MLIS degree, and a minimum of three years relevant professional experience. Preferred applicants will have advanced technical skills, and familiarity with the MS Office Suite applications, social media, and personal digital devices, including E-readers. Applicants are also required to submit a recent writing sample along with their cover letter, resume, and library application.
