Position Description: 

The Oak Park Public Library seeks a professional librarian with a deep appreciation of the customer experience, a broad understanding of technology and its applications, and the vision and management skills of a collaborative leader to be its next Manager for Digital Services.

The Manager for Digital Services maintains a customer-centered focus in providing leadership and vision for the Library’s digital and information technology services team.  The Manager leads in the areas of web services, digital collections, technology instruction and programs, public technology tools, the staff technology environment, and network administration.

The duties and responsibilities of this position are many and varied, including strategy development, usability testing, service and resource design, technology implementation, trend awareness, planning, and budgeting.  The Manager for Digital Services reports to the library’s Executive Director, serves as a member of the Senior Management Team, and manages the work of the Digital Services Librarians, Digital Services Associates, and the Network Administrator.

This full-time position includes evening and weekend hours.  The salary range is $60,299 to $90,438 with excellent benefits.  The successful candidate will possess a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution, two years of experience in direct customer service provision and library technologies, strong project management skills, and the abilities for strategic thinking, goal setting, and progress measurement.

Qualifications for the position include:

    • Masters degree in library science or coursework toward the degree.
    • Basic keyboard and typing skills.

    • Well-developed oral communications skills.
    • Ability to speak Spanish a plus.
    • Schedule may include some evenings and sometimes weekends.

This internship begins the week of January 20 and runs through the week of March 24, 2014. Interns will work 3 mornings a week for 3 to 3.5 hours for a total of 10 hours a week. The internship pays $12.17 an hour.

  • Minimum of one year experience working successfully with children ages birth through eighth grade and their caregivers in a group setting preferred.

Position Description: 

Are you great with technology and even better with people?  Do you love teaching?  This staff member in the Adult Services Department will introduce patrons to the newest technologies (eReaders, computers and more) as well as assist them at finding information, books and other media.  You will work closely with the 2ndfloor Information Desk librarians to provide patrons with superior service.

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

*Proficient knowledge of computers, Microsoft Office and Internet

*Experience providing group or one-on-one technology instruction

*Demonstrated proficiency with creative technology software

*General comfort around computers and new computer programs

*Ability to interact patiently and pleasantly with people of all ages

*Read, write and communicate fluently in English

*High School diploma

PREFERRED: 

* Experience in working with the public

* Knowledge of basic library organization.
