Position Description: 

The Oak Park Public Library is seeking two friendly, organized, flexible individuals with excellent judgment who will help customers of all ages find exactly what they need whether its books, movies, programming info or computer assistance.  The branch environment requires the ability to do a range of library tasks.

Responsibilities include supervision and scheduling of Library Assistants and Shelvers, general circulation duties, tracking statistics and submitting reports, searching the library catalog, internet, SWAN and other key databases as needed for Reference and Reader’s Advisory.  There will also be opportunities for programming, collection maintenance, and participation in wider library events and committees. 

 

Requirements include an Associate’s degree or two years of college. A minimum of 3 years experience working in a library or other customer service position is also required.  Experience supervising, training and developing staff is strongly preferred. 

These positions are based at the Maze Branch, but supervisors may be assigned to any of the Library’s three locations. In addition to weekly daytime hours, the schedule includes one night shift per week 5-9 pm and every other Saturday 9-5 pm. The supervisor will be in the Sunday shift rotation which is every 3rdSunday.

This position is for 20 hours per week and starts at $17.65 per hour.

The selected candidate will be expected to provide a diverse range of library patron services including staffing the reference desk, instructing patrons in the use of electronic and print resources, and a variety of related tasks. Position reports directly to the Branch Manager.

Minimum qualifications: Must possess a Library Technical Assistant Certificate (LTA), or possess a bachelor’s degree and relevant experience.  Adult services/reference experience in a public library preferred.  Applicants should have computer experience, including Internet and the use of online databases, and ability to work days, evenings and weekends. Knowledge of the Polaris integrated library system is a plus. Applicants will also be required to travel between our facilities as needed. Salary range begins at $12.25 per hour and increases commensurate with performance.

Position Description: 

General Description

The Circulation Supervisor is responsible for the operation of the Circulation Department.  This includes providing the first impression of library services to library visitors and phone customers.  The Circulation Supervisor supervises activities at the circulation desk, the computer circulation system, and all processes related to circulation of materials including the general order of all materials as they are shelved.

General Working Conditions, Physical Requirements

A circulation librarian must be able to lift arms above shoulder level to retrieve items from shelves and lift and
balance heavy books.  A circulation librarian must juggle several tasks at once including waiting on customers and answering the telephone. A circulation librarian may remain in a standing position for extended periods of time. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Library experience, supervisory experience, and MLS preferred.
  • Good communication skills. Ability to prepare and deliver concise and clear oral and written reports.
  • Desire to help people.
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with library staff and library customers.
  • Working knowledge of computer applications for library services.
  • Ability to defuse upset customers, explain procedures, and calmly rectify any misunderstandings while observing library standards and policies.
  • Working knowledge of supervisory methods including work delegation, scheduling, change management, evaluating performance, and maintaining morale.
  • Ability to lift 60 pounds.

Duties:

  • Hires, schedules, supervises and evaluates circulation staff.
  • Provides clearly written procedures for staff.
  • Encourages positive, friendly service from personnel.
  • Sets goals for department.
  • Creates signage, displays and handouts to educate customers and promote services.
  • Shelves, charges and discharges library materials.
  • Maintains patron registration files; makes new and replacement library cards for customers.
  • Processes overdue notices and billing notices.
  • Coordinates activities with director and other department supervisors.
  • Answers and directs telephone calls.
  • Directs customers to areas within the library.
  • Processes memorial book donations.
  • Records daily and monthly circulation statistics.
  • Handles customer complaints.
  • Secures building at end of operating hours.
  • Advises library director about departmental problems or changes.
  • Accepts donations, schedules meeting room, and posts mail.
  • Reviews professional publications; attends meetings and continuing education workshops.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by the Director.
  • Compensation:

    • Full time supervisory position, $41,600-$46,800depending on experience

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

·Provides support for development and maintenance of library collection management activities as they relate to the ICO Library, current library technologies and the ICO SIRSI library system

·Advises the Library Director on the acquisition of new materials from appropriate vendors, administers the SIRSI Acquisions and Cataloging modules

·Participates in planning and budgeting for the management of the collection, and in the selection of new materials, to include the acquisition of both physical and electronic materials, as well as in collection weeding

·Catalogs and classifies materials utilizing the LC Classification scheme and current cataloging practices, including RDA

·Accurately enters acquisitions and cataloging records into OCLC and SIRSI

·Supervises copy cataloging and processing of all new material

·Compiles statistics required for reports and evaluation of collections and services

·Works in conjunction with staff, faculty, and students in support of collection management activities; familiarity with medical information resources

·Investigates and stays abreast of current technologies in support of the Library’s vision and mission

·Serves as the backup SIRSI Administrator

·Assesses/recommends new library products and services

·Familiarity with and ability to navigate EDI and X.12 and Z.39.50 protocols

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

·ALA-accredited Masters Degree in Library and Information Science

·At least 5 years of professional experience in an academic, research, hospital or medical school library

·Significant professional experience and competence in librarianship at the professional level in library technical services: cataloging, classification, acquisition, and collection management services

·Experience with medical terminology and the SIRSI integrated library system or equivalent library system

·Experience in OCLC, RDA and CONTENTdm and/or another digital collection management software

·Ability to meet deadlines regardless of circumstances or pressures and to handle a wide variety of non-sequential jobs and to work with minimal supervision

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

·Provides backup reference, research, daily interlibrary loan services and circulation assistance to the ICO community as needed

This is a 12 to 18 hours per week position (the hours may vary), with at least one evening a week and participation in a weekend rotation.  This is a non-IMRF (pension) position with limited benefit earning potential. Starting salary is $10.43 per hour.

The Niles Public Library District is seeking a person who will oversee our 7 million dollar budget. Under the direct supervision of the Library’s Director, you will function as the Library’s Business Manager and will be responsible for coordinating the budget process and completing a wide-variety of financial analysis work, including multi-year forecasting and developing a systematic approach to monitor the status of funds.  Additionally, you will be responsible for certain aspects of Human Resources.

Requirements: Bachelors’ Degree in Finance, Accounting or related field, CPA certification, five or more years of demonstrated success as a Finance or Accounting Manager, previous financial management experience in a public, tax-supported agency, and previous supervisory experience.  Payroll systems and Blackbaud’s Financial Edge financial software, broad knowledge of general accounting principles including GASB reporting are required. Individual needs outstanding interpersonal customer service skills.

Our digital services team has an opportunity for a tech-savvy and customer focused individual.  Requires extensive interaction in assisting the public with all aspects of technology available at the library, including the internet, MS Office, e-books and the array of cool tools available in our new digital studio.   Position also requires assisting customers in locating desired materials.

Excellent working knowledge of Windows 7, MS Office 10 and the internet are required.  Requires a positive and friendly customer service attitude.  Experience with digital media tools preferred, including Apple Mac OSX, iLife11 (iMovie, iPhoto, Garageband), Adobe Creative Suite5, etc.

BS/BA or equivalent work experience required.

This position includes vacation/sick leave, and participation in IMRF pension plan.

Candidate must be self-sufficient, with superior writing and editing skills, knowledge of layout and design as well as thorough knowledge of principles and practices of marketing and public relations.   

Primary responsibilities include developing a marketing plan and promoting the library through the production of print materials as well as through the library’s website and social media tools.

Qualifications:

The preferred candidate will have at least five years of experience in marketing with the ability to develop a public relations and marketing plan to enhance the image of the library and promote its services. Graphic design experience a plus.

For the summer of 2013, PLA is looking for a dynamic, innovative individual to take on various responsibilities associated with PLA’s new initiatives, DigitalLearn.org, a digital literacy website and other general office responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum 15 hours per week; hours may be increased depending upon project work load and availability.

Intern responsibilities will include a variety of projects related to DigitalLearn.org and digital literacy, including social media management, the creation of computer skills tutorials and the writing of blog posts. Some projects will be administrative related to general association management, survey evaluation and webinar production. Interns will also be expected to participate in staff meetings.

Experience working with various social media outlets
